A golden wedding is an event which does not happen in the life of every couple.  Few people live to celebrate the 50th. anniversary of marriage.  The celebration of their golden wedding by Jacob Arting and wife at their home at 92 South Diamond Street today is a joyous event both for the recollections of October 10, 1845, and for the family reunion which is celebrated with it, and also the fact that today is the 78th. anniversary of the birth of Mrs. Arting, who is still in good health and looks well.

Jacob Arting and Miss Barbara Knoblock were married in the state of Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, October 10, 1845.  They resided there during six years of their married life, migrating to this county in 1851.  They went to Cleveland, where Mr. Arting entered into the barber business in connection with his brother.  He remained in business for some time and then went to Coshocton.  He remained in that city about four weeks and then came to Mansfield.  He resided on East Fourth Street five years, and then moved to the corner of Diamond and First Streets, where the elderly couple still reside.  Mr. Harding opened a barber shop shortly after he came here in the St. James Hotel building and remained in the business there in one room for 20 years.  He retired from business in 1883, 12 years ago, and has been living a retired life since that time.

Mr. and Mrs. Arting have six children as a result of their union.  All of them are living and are present at the celebration today.  The two sons, Jacob and Lewis, of Chicago, are present with their families.  The four daughters all reside here and are present.  They are Mrs. Philip Koerper, Mrs. Ed. Remy, Mrs. William Fuchs and Mrs. Louis Wolf.  Mrs. Arting's brother, Phillip Knoblock, of Cleveland, is also present.  There are in all 20 grandchildren, 15 of whom are present.

The day is being spent in a happy family reunion and a 5 o'clock dinner at which the entire family is present.  The children and grandchildren have presented Mr. & Mrs. Arting with a number of fine and appropriate presents.
