The fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. I.H. Kanaga was celebrated Christmas Day at their pleasant home on North Main Street, Butler.  Only the immediate friends of the estimable couple were entertained at dinner, but at the reception held during the remainder of the day, their intimate friends who called were served with refreshments.  Music on piano, mandolin and guitar were rendered in a very pleasant and entertaining manner by the sons and grandsons of the worthy couple.  Mr. and Mrs. Kanaga received some very handsome and costly presents, from their children and friends, as tokens of the high esteem in which they are held, and as a remembrance of the occasion, of their golden wedding anniversary.

The day was one which will long be cherished in the memories of all who were so fortunate as to be present at the function, and extend their best wishes to the venerable couple.

Fifty years ago Dec. 25th., Precilla K. Palm and I.H. Kanaga were united in marriage by Rev. Rolly H. Chubb, a Methodist minister of Bellville.  The ceremony was performed at the bride's home in Jefferson Twp. on the farm now owned by A. Lanehart.

Mr. and Mrs. Kanaga were both born in Cumberland County, Pa., the former at Big Spring and the latter at a small stage town called Palmstown.  Mrs. Kanaga's parents conducted a stage tavern in the town which was named in their honor.  After the advent of railroads, the tavern fell into disuse to a considerable extent, and her parents emigrated to Ohio.

A remarkable fact is, that the four children born to the union, all of whom were present Christmas Day, and all of a number of grandchildren, with one exception, are still living.  

Those present at the golden wedding, Christmas, were:  Winfield Kanaga and family, residing north of town;  L.A. Kanaga, of Ft. Wayne, Ind., a passenger conductor on the Pennsylvania railroad, with his family;  F.J. Kanaga, Pennsylvania depot baggage master at Ft. Wayne, with his family;  and Mr. and Mrs. I.C. Ball of Butler.
