Hoffer's Town

Drawing of Lots by the Hoffer Gas and Oil Company

A very large number of lot owners in the Hoffer Gas & Oil Company met at the Sherman club rooms Tuesday night and were called to order by Isaac B. Hoffer.  Secretary W.H. Farber read the report of the directors, Messrs. I.B. Hoffer, George C. Wise, J.P. Rummell, R.L. Underwood and H.E. Bell.  The financial statement is as follows:

The report further states that deeds for lots can be secured from Nelson Ozier to whom the whole was deeded in trust, at the office of H.E. Bell on the payment of 50 cents for each deed.  The report was accepted.

The drawing of lots was next in order.  Messrs. J.M. Waugh, B.F. Keiser and George Steel were appointed to prepare 127 tickets, one for each lot numbered from one to 127, and 127 more tickets bearing the names of all the purchasers of lots.  A person who had purchased two or more lots had two or more tickets.  When these were preparing the assembled members of the company selected Frank W. Aten to be blind folded for the drawing and George H. Lowrey and Reid Carpenter to take charge of the tickets.  When all was ready the numbered tickets were placed in one box and the tickets with the names in another.  Mr. Lowrey took charge of the numbers and Mr. Carpenter of the names.  Mr. Aten, blind folded, stood between them and drew one number and one name simultaneously.  The number was called out by Mr. Lowrey and the name was kept by Mr. Farber and Mr. Bell.  The drawing resulted as follows:
