Golden Wedding Celebrated ... Mr. Editor: -- It was the good fortune of myself and wife to be present at the very pleasant party at the residence of Mr. Calvin Clark, on Wednesday, October 7th., 1874.  The occasion was what usually called a Golden Wedding.  There were present, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and a few friends.  We had a most excellent dinner, just such and only such, as can be got up at a good farmer's house.  After dinner all were seated in the Parlor, the old family Bible was placed upon the stand.  Rev. W.W. Anderson read a chapter and made a few appropriate remarks, when he got through, there were but few, if any, dry eyes in the room, all seemed to feel that it was a pleasant yet solemn occasion, thus to be together to walk over the past and present joys and sorrows of life, and rejoice and sympathize together.    CALVIN CLARK and MARY FULTON were married October 7, 1824, by the Rev. James Johnston of Mansfield.  They commenced life as I am told with nothing but their hands, as most people do who amount to anything.  By honest industry, economy and a faithful trust in God, the giver of all good, they have obtained a competency for themselves, after having assisted their children, so as to give them all a good start in the world.  Mr. Clark settled where he now lives in March, 1831.  His farm consists of one hundred and seventy acres of good land and is well tilled.  It is one of the finest farms in all this beautiful country of ours.  Mr. Clark was one of the small number to organize the Presbyterian Church of this place in 1829.  He was elected an elder in 1834, and he has always been and is yet, one of the main pillars of the church.  The Sabbath School of the church was organized by Mr. Clark and superintended by him for a great number of years.  The youth of this place and surrounding country are largely indebted to Mr. Clark for much and valuable instruction while in attendance at the Sabbath School.  My own children often speak with pride of the time they attended Sabbath School during the administration of Mr. Clark.  Mr. and Mrs. Clark have six children living, twenty-six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren all in good circumstances.  May the aged Father and Mother yet long live to enjoy their pleasant home, and the society of their children and friends, and when life shall fail, may they be received in the mansions of eternal bliss, there to join the praises of the blood-washed throng, while ceaseless ages roll their endless rounds, is my prayer. -- John Mack, Shelby, Ohio, October 9th., 1874  [Shelby Independent News:  15 October 1874, Vol. 6, No. 51]
