Pvt. Robert L. Meeting

Reported as killed in action in Germany according to a war dept. telegram received by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Meeting, 239 Sturges Ave., Mansfield.  Entered the service August, 1942, and served overseas.

Robert Louis Meeting was born in Mansfield on Oct. 9, 1911.  His parents were Andrew Meeting and Susan Whisler Meeting.  He had two brothers, Clarence (Spike) and Paul, and several sisters -   Alice,  Josephine, Marie, Ann, and  Clara.
 
He had not married and was living at home before he entered the U.S. Army  on July 22, 1942 and was sent to the European theatre of World War 2.  He served as a private in the 117th Infantry, 30th Infantry Division.  His Individual  Deceased Personnel File (IDPF) provided by the Army states that he was killed at the Vic. of Worden, Germany on Nov. 18, 1944.  Robert was buried at the U.S. Military Cemetery in Margraten, the Netherlands.  After the war was over, his family members had the option to bring his body back to Ohio but chose to leave him there, where he is buried at Plot E, Row 6, Grave 5.  He received the Purple Heart for his service to his country.   His death notice appeared in the Mansfield  newspaper on Dec 6, 1944 and also in the Massillon Independent on that same day since the Meetings had relatives there.
