The annual reunion of the First Ohio Independent Battery was held at the home of Charles Mountain near the corner of Wood Street and Cline Avenue. About 30 ex-soldiers and their wives were present and all spent a most enjoyable time. Among those present was the Rev. Collier, chaplain of the 34th. Ohio, who also served 22 years in the United States Regular Army and has recently been retired from the service having taken up his residence in Sandusky.
At noon Tuesday the soldiers and their wives sat down to a bountiful dinner which embraced all the good things in season. After dinner was over and cigars had been lighted, the Rev. Collier was called upon and made an interesting address of half an hour. the members of the battery present were:
Oliver Guthrie, Shiloh | R.J. Welch, Crestline | Robert Patterson, Mansfield |
William Davis, Ashland | Abraham Myers, Ashland | M.A. Ricksecker, Galion |
John Schringer, Plymouth | J.K. Cumberworth, Shelby | Andrew Mount, Shiloh |
W.H. Rhodes, Brightwood, IN | H. Beistline, Shelby | B.S. Ruckman, Plymouth |
Charles R. Hooker, Mansfield | John S. Hooker, Mansfield | H.S. Rose, Shiloh |
Charles Mountain, Mansfield | J.H. Fee, Adrian, MI | J.H. Herring, Mansfield |
A.F. Nail, Mansfield | James Dawson, New London | Frank C. Fisher, Pittsburg |
The battery was organized at Columbus, July 4, 1861, and served until June 6, 1865. Michael Ricksecker, of Galion, is president of the association and H.S. Rose, of Shiloh, is secretary. The next reunion of the battery will probably be held in Cincinnati.
