BELLVILLE Dr. Ridenour, of this place, will locate this week at Dalton, O. John Knox had an elegant watch stolen from his house last week. Attorney O.F. Farber of Mansfield, visited in town the past few days. Mayor Lafferty was on the sick list for a few days the latter part of last week. Lloyd Lewis, of Bucyrus, spent Sunday in Bellville, guest of friends and relatives. Don't forget the Y.P.C.U. Lawn Fete, on Saturday evening, Aug. 3rd., in Theo. Garber's grove. Rev. C.S. Cliffe, wife and family, go to spend a few days vacation in Ashland County, with "The Old Folks at Home". Mr. Roy Redick, of the SHIELD, Mansfield, was in Bellville last Thursday and Friday. A.G. Fry has brought suit before Esq. F.M. Hess, against Patrick Gatton, to recover the sum of $1.50, the balance due on account. Case has been set for Saturday, July 20, at 10 a.m. O.C. Marlott, of Mansfield, has brought action in 'Squire Hess' court, against John Mock, of this place, to recover $69.87, as the claim of balance due on sale of butchership. The case has been set for Saturday, July 20th., at 9 a.m. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hill spent Sunday last in Morrow Co., visiting relatives. Attorneys McGuire and Galbraith of Mansfield, were in Bellville, Monday, on legal business. Miss Mollie Patman, who is employed as book-keeper at Mansfield is at home on a two week's vacation. J.B. LeFevre will open up a restaurant under Clifton House on Saturday, July 20. His place will be known as the Star Cafe. Mr. O.A. Faust was in Campbells, a station on the B.&O. Ry., in charge of the telegraph office at that place, Thursday and Friday of last week. W.S. Walter is the champion mouth organ player of town. He lately received a splendid piece of music from Mrs. Lou Frazier, of Oklahoma. The crop from a ten-acre field of wheat was totally destroyed by fire at the farm of Mr. Theo. L. Garber, southeast of town, last Friday. The fire originated from a passing engine on the railroad and soon got beyond control. The extreme dry weather has been favorable for conflagrations of the kind. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Clever, on the 15th., a daughter. Mrs. J.C. Potts and children visited at L.V. Kochheiser's on Wednesday. Miss Maggie McBride went with Rev. and Mrs. Cliffe to Ashland County to enjoy a visit with them. A.S. Secrist will teach the Chestnut Chapel school next year in place of Walnut Hill as announced last week. Mr. Norris will build a 50-foot addition to the Clifton House in the near future. Some substantial improvements are being made in Bellville. Mrs. Wm. Gerlach and children leave this morning for a two-week's visit to her mother, three miles south of Galion. Casca Lodge K.P. conferred the rank of Esq. upon a class of four candidates at their regular meeting Monday evening. The visiting brothers on that occasion were: Fred. Beverstock of Lexington; Jacob Snider of Johnsville; Wilson Green and Lewis Bachtell of Fredericktown; and Attorney O.F. Farber of Mansfield. | ||

Miss Ora Armstrong, accompanied by her niece, Bertha Beattie, left for a visit at Washington, D.C., on last Tuesday evening.
Misses Flo Rhodes and Ray McCoy, of Cleveland, have been visiting the past few days with the latter's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McCoy, west of town.
A FATAL SHOT -- The daughter of Dennis Stofer was accidentally shot by her brother while handling a gun in the absence of the father. Mr. Dennis [sic.] was away attending the funeral of his father when the young man took the gun and was going hunting. Mr. Stofer lives about three miles north of Lexington and the daughter is about 9 years old. Amputation was necessary; from the effects of which she died.
Wm. O. Thuma brought suit before Esq. F.M. Hess last Thursday against Edward Near, to replevin 10 acres of wheat. The wheat had been sown by Thuma on the farm now occupied by Near and the contest was for ownership of the crop. Jas. C. Lacer, of Mansfield, appeared as attorney for plaintiff and the Hon. J.E. Howard, of this place, for the defense. The case was disposed of by a compromise being effected -- substantially that plaintiff take the wheat and defendant pay costs.
Who says we cannot eat turkey any other time than Thanksgiving and Christmas? July 14th. R.J. Sherrow killed a fatted turkey, weighing twenty pounds, in honor of Mrs. Anna Frazier, who with her two bright little children are here on a visit from Guthrie, Oklahoma. Twenty-two partook of a most excellent dinner. The oldest present was eighty-seven years and the youngest nearly two years old. Mr. Sherrow is a splendid band at entertaining and his wife an excellent cook, as all who were present will testify. -- A. Guest.

Charley Walker is the proud possessor of a valuable Norman colt.
The little two year old son of Calvin Aungst started out Sunday to explore the country for himself. He was captured on the way to town.
HASTINGS
Miss Emma Maglott and Aura, daughter of G.B. Keiter, spent last week with J. Maglott and family.
Miss Verda Bierly spent Sunday with her parents.
Mrs. Ina Aungst and little daughter spent Sunday with her grandmother, Mrs. Secrist.
Master Harvey and Don Maglott are visiting with their grandparents at present
Oscar Harter called on his best girl Saturday night.
Scott Bone was in this vicinity Sunday.
Mrs. Eli Berry and daughter, Merceda, spent a few days last week with Mrs. Clark Smith near Bellville.
O.M. McCready spent Sunday with his parents.
Miss Retta Andrews is clerking for Mr. Vervilion at present.
