Mrs. John Heilman, residing about six miles southeast of Bucyrus, on last Tuesday morning attempted to kindle a fire with coal oil poured from a can, which exploded, burning her terribly, from the effects of which she died the same evening.

We learn that Mr. Victor Gutzweiler of Mansfield, has been appointed Register of the Virginia Military Lands, an office to which Mr. James E. Cox had been appointed before his recent insanity.

The Literary Society met Tuesday evening, January 12th.  Dr. L.P. Holbrook presided, and the Secretary, Miss Docia Smith, present.  The literary exercises were as follows:  Select Readings Gilbert Bargahiser;  Recitations by Miss Lilly Turner and Miss Carrie Hunter;  Imaginary Essay by Miss Lizzie Meredith.  The Secretary, Miss Smith, at her earnest request, was relieved from her position, so ably and well filled since the organization of the Association.  Prof. J.A. Gann was unanimously elected Secretary for the present term.
