Mr. Joseph Downend is very ill.

John Adam Thoman of Crestline died on Tuesday last.

Frederick Wise, of Mansfield, committed suicide on Monday of last week.  Having been a soldier during the late war, his remains were escorted to the grave with military honors.

The Jackson Twp. Democrats nominated the following ticket:  Trustees:  Wm. D. Cook, James W. Hoffman and John G. Skiles.  Clerk:  M.M. Barber.  Treasurer:  Daniel Cooper.  Assessor:  Henry W. Crum.  Constables:  Joseph Sherer and John E. Sellers.  Justice of the Peace:  C.C. Laser.

DIED, At the residence of her father in Plymouth, on March 17th., Mrs. Sarah E., wife of Franklin Ashley, and daughter of William M. and Sarah Ewing, in the 35th. year of her age, after a short but very painful illness.  Sarah was well and favorably known both in Plymouth and Shelby, where she had spent most of her life.  She was of a very retiring disposition, and none knew her but to love her.  But she has gone, and left a large circle of friends to mourn but not as those without hope.

Mrs. Miller, widow of Samuel Miller, died at her residence in London, last Monday afternoon.  Obituary next week.

Mr. John Saviers has employed J.W. Risser, formerly with M. & J.H. Black of Mansfield as his cutter.  He comes well recommended as a workman, and a perfect gentleman.

The following officers were nominated at the Republican caucus last Monday evening (Sharon Twp.):  Trustees:  S. Tucker, C. Gamble and D. Brown.  Clerk:  H.W. Hildebrant.  Treasurer:  Geo. Bowman.  Assessor:  H.H. Shriner.  Constables:  J. Wolf and J. Blackman.  Councilmen:  E.H. Shriner, E. Wilson and E.J. Melsheimer.

Pursuant to announcement a number of Democrats, from the south end of Sharon, with others in Shelby, met at the Town Hall on last Saturday afternoon, and placed in nomination the following ticket:  Trustees:  John Finegan, Nicholas Hines and Abraham Bushey.  Clerk:  Wm. Owings.  Treasurer:  W.A. Shaw.  Assessor:  Joseph Doty.  Constable:  R.P. Bricker.  Geo. Cook, Esq. was nominated for Justice of the Peace, but he promptly declined, whereupon Wm. Owings was nominated.  There was no Democratic nominations made for Village Council, but we understand the following names have been suggested as suitable persons, in addition to those already named by the Republicans ... Abraham Bushey, Dr. C. McMillin, J.L. Pittinger.  Mr. Pittinger says he is no candidate, and will not accept the office.
