Amos Greenleaf, at home from Springfield, on a short visit. He looks well. Dr. Loughridge, pension surgeon at Mansfield, died on last Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Jacob Snyder, near Spring Mill, 85 years old, walked to town on Saturday, about seven miles, and intended to walk home again. The residence of Mrs. Gump, about three miles east of Plymouth, was destroyed by fire on Friday evening of week before last. Total loss and no insurance. Mr. Jacob Stiving, an aged and respected German citizen of the south end of Sharon Township, died on Monday last, aged about eighty years. The case of Lucy L. Anderson against the Ętna Life Insurance Company, was settled, compromising at $1,650. The original judgment for $3,000 had been set aside and a new trial granted in the U.S. Circuit Court. DIED, The Rev. Henry Hess was born in Bucks Co., Pa., Jan. 21, 1811, died near Mansfield, O., August 12th., 1875, aged 64 years, 6 months and 21 days. As the departed kept no record of his ministerial labors, but little can be given of the fruits of hi earnest ministry, covering a period of about 35 years. He commenced preaching at New Lisbon, Ohio, in the year 1839, and (October 17th. of the same years) was married to Sarah Bechtle, who now sadly realized her heavy bereavement. After his pastorate at the above place, he labored awhile in Trumbull Co. |
