INDEPENDENCE

Jake Phipps of Mansfield, visited his folks here last Sunday.

J.M. Switzer, of Bellville, spent Sunday with his mother, at this place.

Mrs. Ellen Moore visited friends in Bellville from Friday until Sunday.

Noble Calhoon and his brother Sam, returned from Pittsburgh on Monday night.

Noah Keister and Mrs. Mary Macomber were married at Perrysville, recently.

Mr. and Mrs. I. Hess and little Blanche, were at Mansfield, Tuesday of this week.

C.E. McBride, Esq., of Mansfield, and his estimable wife have both been seriously afflicted with la grippe, but are much better.

Mr. Grant Aungst, of Mansfield, law student in the office of Douglass & Douglass, was the guest of his "friend" Miss Inez McBride on Sunday.

B.F. Seiler, the Fredericktown man killed by the cars, was buried at Plymouth, Thursday, by the Masons and the Odd Fellows.  The funeral is said to have been a very large one.

Eli Hays, and family left Mansfield, last Monday night, for Lewiston, Pawnee County, Nebraska, where they are going to make their future home.  The best wishes of their many friends go with them.

Mary Bachelder died at Mifflin, Feb. 3d., and was buried Feb. 6th.  The deceased would have been 90 years of age had she lived until May 30th.  She has been a resident of Mifflin Township for 70 years.  -- Daily Shield.

Mr. & Mrs. J.B. Pearce and Mrs. A. Switzer and family attended a dinner party given by Prof. and Mrs. Ford, on Thursday last, in honor of Miss Jennie Ford, who has recently returned from the East.

Franklin Strater has commenced divorce proceedings against Mary Strater.  The parties were married March 28, 1889, and have no children.  For some months past the defendant has refused to live with her husband, hence the suit. -- Daily Shield.

Howard Palm and Master Clifton Switzer, of Independence, were the guests of David Palm on Saturday.  Howard's bachelor years seem to set very lightly on him. -- Bellville Independent
