Society Gossip of the Day

 

Among the pleasant social events of the past week was the surprise perpetrated upon John Hester and Jacob Knarr by their friends. The occasion being their birthday anniversary, which was jointly celebrated at the home of Mr. Hester on Wayne street. The evening was spent in dancing, vocal and instrumental music, also graphophone selections, after which all partook of an elegant repast served by the hostess. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. J. Scior, Mr. and Mrs. William Borches, Mr. and Mrs. L. Andregg, Mr. and Mrs. J. Kamary, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Knarr, Mr. and Mrs. John Hester, Misses Minnie Drechsel, Barbara Scherman, Mary Scior, Helen Hester, Hattie Scior, Stella Hester, Anna Sciro and a baby Borches, Messrs. Charles Haas, George Berry, Herman Schoemacher, John Hoffmeir, Edwin Knarr, Will Lynn, Harry Shirk, Cliff Knarr and Albert Kilp. The main features of the evening's enjoyment was the singing by the Ivy quartette, consisting of Messrs. Scior, Hass, Andgregg and Schoemacher. The guests departed at a late hour, wishing Mr. Hester and Mr. Knarr many more pleasnat birthday anniversaries. A jolly good time was had by all. Music was furnished by Berry's orchestra.

The Zenda club will hold its dance this evening at Canton armory; the Fleur de Lis club dance tomorrow evening at Purdy Hall.

The following invitations to only the immediate relatives were issued today:

to Mr. Charles Vincent Shepherd on Wednesday, March the nineteenth, Nineteen hundred and Two at Twelve o'clock, 519 park avenue west, Mansfield, Ohio.

Miss Cornell is a graduate of the University of Wooster and for some time was teacher of Latin in the Mansfield high school, resigning her position last fall. Mr. Shepherd is connected with the Hollenden hotel company at Cleveland. He was formerly with the Card Electric company in this city. Both are most highly esteemed by all who know them. They will reside at Cleveland.

The Reading Circle of the St. Luke's Lutheran church will meet in the Sunday school rooms of the church this evening at 7:30 o'clock.

Miss Nina Leech, who is attending school at the Ursuline convent in Tiffin arrived home Monday evening and is the guest of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Leech, of the Tremont House.

The Christian Endeavor society of the First Presbyterian church will be entertained by the Misses Robinson, on West Third street, tonight.

The Sappho club will meet with Mrs. Charles Fritz, on Sherman avenue, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Miss Katherine Locke will be present and will give a talk on the life and works of Ethelbert Nevin, the celebrated composer.

J. O. Kemp is at Galion today on business.

Mrs. J. F. Weldon is visiting friends in Plymouth.

Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Bahl are visiting in Wooster.

T. J. Green, of Shelby, is in the city today on business.

J. B. Coss went to Marion this morning on a business trip.

J. B. Ink went to Toledo Monday afternoon on a business trip.

Mrs. M. G. Jackson, of East First street, has gone to Marion to visit her son, William.

Mrs. F. M. Walters, of East First street, has returned from a visit with friends at Ashland.

C. H. DeCamp, of Chicago, is visiting his parents, Dr. and Mrs. DeCamp, on Stewart avenue.

Mrs. F. D. Gunsaullus, of Plymouth, is the guest of Mrs. L. R. Dronberger, on West First street.

Miss Mae Herring, of South Main street, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Herring, of Cleveland.

Miss Eliza Ribblet, of Mr. Vernon, was the guest of Miss Mary Shanabarger, of Clairmont avenue Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hineman, of Pittsburg, were the guests of friends here Monday afternoon and evening.

Louis Froundlich and son, Jerome, went to Cincinnati this morning, where they will spend several days with relatives.

W. J. McMinnus, of Chicago, who has been visiting with friends on Willow street, returned home Monday night.

Misses Ethel Ashley, Maud Smith and Edith Knapp, of Shelby, who have been visiting friends in the city, have returned home.

Miss Mary King, of West First street, went to Lexington this morning, where she will spend the day with Mr. and Mrs. Barney Beverstock.

Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Barry were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Becker, on South Franklin street, and returned to their home in Akron today.

Erie Passenger Engineer Mick Ricksacker (genial Mike) is here today from Galion, fraternizing with his old army comrades and telling some of his choice yarns.

H. W. Clover, traveling freight agent for the Union Pacific, is registered at the Tremont House and is transacting business with the local Erie freight house today.

W. B. Donaugh, who has been residing in this city for several weeks and has been working at the ca___ trade, left Monday for Portland, Ore., where he has secured a position with a contractor.

Miss Cladie Chapman left today for Cleveland to attend the millinery opening at the city, after which she goes to Ridgeway, Pa., to remain for the season. Miss Chapman has already been at Ridgeway for two seasons.

Theodore Hull, of Bowman street, will leave for Chicago today whence he will go to Kansas City and thence to Portland, Ore., Seattle and other points in the west. Mr. Hull expects to remain in the west and will be joined by his family later on.
