Society Gossip of the Day

 

The following invitations have been issued:

Miss Hisey arrived here today from Columbus and will be the guest of Mansfield friends for one week.

Miss Dana Seltzer gave a dinner party last evening in honor of her guest, Miss Louise Baker, of Cleveland, and also to formally announce the engagement of Miss Blanche Skiles to T. J. Green -Shelby Globe.

The eighth in the series of afternoon recitals by the piano pupils of Misses Adele and Florence Hostetter is being given this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the home of the Misses Hostetter on Douglas avenue.

A party of Mansfield people went to Shelby last evening and with some Shelby friends, very delightfully surprised Mr. and Mrs. William May at their home on Gamble street. The evening was delightfully spent in the enjoyment of progressive pedro, the honor in which was won by Mrs. H. W. Palmer. An elaborate and splendid supper was served and the Mansfield guests returned home on the last car. The following composed the party: Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Lutz, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas B. McNiece, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. McNary, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hayner, Mr. and Mrs. D. Goldsmith, Mr. and Mrs. John Hunt, Mr. and Mrs. Byron Hershey, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Gross, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Kerr, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Palmer, Mr. and Mrs. George H. Weldner, Mr. and Mrs. William F. Voegele, of this city; Mr. and Mrs. Hoffstadt, Mr. and Mrs. Fogelson, Mr. and Mrs. Keekler, Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Ott, Mrs. Philip Sommers, Mr. and Mrs. Myers, Mr. and Mrs. Trounstine, Miss Nellie Hart.

The Sunday school of the First Presbyterian church will hold a mid-winter picnic in the social rooms of the church this evening at 7:30 o'clock. reports of the officers of the school will be given during the first part of the evening and other business will be transacted. A special programme has been prepared which will be rendered after the picnic.

Mark H. Arnold, a draughtsman at the Ohio Brass works, and Miss Bertha Jane Dunbar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Dunbar, of Elkhorn, Wis., were united in marriage at that place Tuesday, March 4. The wedding tour included a trip to Chicago and other points and Mr. Arnold and his bride arrived here last evening. They will be at home after April 1 at 171 Park avenue west. They expect to go to housekeeping at the corner of Bowman and Fifth streets.

W. W. Crider, of this city, is away on business.

Dr. F. W. Platt is at Wooster today on business.

J. F. Derzor has returned from a trip to Cleveland and other points on business.

W. Lee Cotter, of Sherman avenue, was at Ashland Thursday afternoon on business.

Miss Agnes Grassick, of South Prospect street, left today for Cleveland to visit friends.

James Bailey went to Bellville this morning where he will spend the day with friends.

Miss Lettie Smith, of Douglas avenue, is the guest of friends and relatives in Shelby.

Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Casselman have gone to Canton to visit relatives and friend for a few days.

Mrs. C. C. Cochrell, of south Benton street, returned home last evening from a visit with relatives at LeRoy.

Louis Lehman, of Youngstown, who has been in the city several days on some business, went to Cincinnati this morning.

Mrs. S. M. Nimmons, of Plymouth, who has been the guest of her daughter, Mrs. J. B. Ink, on Marion avenue, returned home this morning.

Harry M. Reed, formerly clerk at Ashbrook's drug store, who has been spending a few days with friends in the city, went to Mr. Vernon this morning.

The Rev. Clement G. Martin, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, in Sandusky, who spent Thursday night with Dr. Meese, returned this morning.

Mrs. Charles Browning, of Douglas avenue, went to Bellville this morning where she will attend the meeting of the J. C. club this afternoon, which will be entertained by Mrs. C. H. Woods. Mrs. Browning will be the guest of Bellville friends until Sunday.

R. A. Tracy left last evening for Daytona, Fla., where he will spend two weeks with his wife and daughters, who are spending the winter in the south.

Mrs. Lulu Black, of Galion, who has been the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Hall, on Spring Mill street, returned home this morning accompanied by her son, Robert.

F. N. Halt, traveling passenger agent for the Chicago & Northwestern railroad, and J. Stanley Orr, traveling passenger agent for the Union Pacific lines, were in the city Thursday evening on business trips.
