The Organization of a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Effected

Pursuant to a call to that effect, a meeting was held in the Mayor's office Monday evening for the purpose of organizing a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Upon the motion of John A. Connolly, the Rev. C.S. Doolitel was called to the chair as President pro tem., and the representatives of the press present were appointed Secretaries.

The following paper, with the attached signatures, was then read:  "The subscribers agree to become members of a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Mansfield, and to pay a membership fee of $1 each upon the issue to them of membership cards when the society is organized and officers elected:"

The Chairman then briefly addressed the meeting, stating the imperative need of such an organization in the city, after which upon motion a committee, consisting of John A. Connolly, A.G. Thornton and G.U. Harn was appointed to draft a constitution and by-laws.

In response to a communication from Abner L. Frazer, President of the Ohio State Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, requesting that delegates from Mansfield be sent to the meeting of the Society, held at Columbus yesterday, John A. Connolly was appointed as a delegate to attend the same.

After the appointment of J.R. Richardson as Treasurer pro tem., the meeting adjourned to meet in the Mayor's office, Friday evening, March 28th., at 7:30 o'clock.
