The petition for the incorporation of the village of Shelby, O. was drafted on the first day of June A.D. 1853.  The petition was duly approved by the honorable county commissioners of Richland county, at their session, Sept. 7 A.D. 1853, the late Hon. Robert Leech, a resident of Shelby, at that time was a member of the board.  Out of a majority of the citizens 112, who signed said petition for incorporation, there are only eight living today, namely:  Our esteemed fellow citizen Daniel Rabold, his father-in-law, Samuel Saltzgaber, now almost 104 years old;  William Sipe, another worthy citizen of Shelby;  Dr. Calvin McMillin, of Cleveland;  Frederick Dennis, of Columbus;  Jacob Hollenbaugh, of Fostoria;  Isaiah Kerr, who recently purchased a little farm at Taylortown, and Edward D. Gamble, of Peru, Ind.  Reprinted from the SHELBY GLOBE.
