A former resident of Mansfield.  Former German teacher.  Worked for a time as an advertising solicitor for the Mansfield News (1886-7).  Removed to Columbus.

Born 12 October 1849 in Duesseldorf, Prussia.  Attended college in the city of Bonn, and afterward went to the Royal Prussian Cadetten school for three years.  In 1869 he was made a second lieutenant in the infantry regiment.  In 1875 he was promoted to first lieutenant for is efficiency as a soldier.  He remained in the army as a first lieutenant until 1878, when he applied for and received a leave of absence, coming to this country.

[He came from a family of soldiers, his father was a colonel in the army, and his brother a major.  His uncle was Heinrich Von Sybel, the great historian.]

After arriving in New York, he decided not to return to his home country, and then moved to San Francisco.  In October, 1888, he returned east, locating at Columbus, but not until he had spent some time in Mansfield.

Mr. Von Sybel is now teaching German language and literature at Misses Scott and Kelly's school for girls on east Iowa Street and has many private scholars.
