CENUS STATISTISTICS

 

The population of Richland County in 1820 was 9168; in 1830 - 24,007; in 1840, 44,823, or 49 inhabitants to the square mile. The total population for Ohio in 1840 was 1,519,467. By 1850 the population for Ohio had reached 1,980,960 of which 23,495 were returned as colored (sic).

Several Townships were added and depleted during the 1840s. On February 26th 1846, Ashland county took in whole the townships Vermilion, Montgomery, Orange, Green and Hanover. Ashland county depleted portions of the following townships from Richland County in the same year; Monroe, Mifflin, Milton and Clear Creek. Morrow County in 1848 took portions of Troy, Perry. Crawford County acquired portions of Sandusky, Vernon and Auburn Townships. Morrow County took in whole, Bloomfield and Congress Townships. Records for those additions/depletions of Morrow, Crawford and Ashland Counties prior to the dates indicated will be found in Richland County.
