RICHLAND COUNTY TAX MAP CD's
The Tax Map CD's from which these indexes were created were provided to the Sherman Room at the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library in early 2005. There are three CD's in the set. You will need to ask the assistance of one of the Sherman Room librarians in order to view this information as it is not available on the shelf.
IT IS IMPORTANT that you record from the index the NAME of the person that you are interested in, the YEAR of the tax map, the SECTION NUMBER and the CD NUMBER ... this will help the librarian assist you in finding the correct pages. All of this information is available on the index page.
The maps are not detailed maps, but will give you an idea of the layout of the section of each township - and where the property was located. The index pages will give you the information as to how much land was owned, the value of that land, and other misc. information. The index shows the names of the owner, not entire families.
There is NO index on the CD's themselves ... please do NOT request print-outs from townships or sections that have not been indexed yet. At this time the only way to find individuals mentioned on the CD's is to look at each page, for each section of each township. This would take a very long time, and the librarians don't have the time to perform this kind of search as their time is needed for patrons visiting the Sherman Room. PLEASE wait until the index for the township that you're interested in has been posted to our website before ordering - so that you can provide the information needed to locate the records you're interested in.
If you are requesting print-outs by mail, the cost for the three pages would be $1.75. This fee is based on the $1.00 research fee, and .25 for each page of the record. If requesting records on more than one person -- add an extra .75 for each additional record. Be sure to request a copy of each of the index pages (left and right sides of the book), and a copy of the actual map page.

Don't forget to check for alternate spellings of a name, such as Douglas or Douglass, or Laser and Lacer.
Not every township has records from each tax map year.
Maps for years after 1931 will not be indexed.
Information on CD's is arranged by township, then subfolders for each tax map year.
Persons may have owned land in more than one section of each township.
