The children and grandchildren of A.L. Martin, who resides six miles northeast of Mansfield in Weller Twp., assembled at his home and celebrated his ninety-first birthday, Monday, May 4.  It was a most pleasant and enjoyable occasion.  Mr. Martin has resided in Richland County since 1854.  He is the father of T.B. Martin, Calvin E. Martin, Jesse Martin, Mrs. M.L. Runyan, Mrs. Emily Stewart and Mrs. Calvin Cline, all of whom reside in Richland County, and were present on the above occasion.

Mr. Martin has always been a Democrat, having cast his first vote for Andrew Jackson for president.  He has been a subscriber to the Shield and Banner for 42 years.  His health is fairly good for one so advanced in years, and he bids fair to round out an even hundred years.  It is the hope of his many friends that he may do so.
