John Brissel

John Brissel died at his home, 226 East Third Street, Wednesday night at 8:30 o'clock.  The funeral services, conducted by Rev. Magenhann, will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Saturday morning, at 8:30 o'clock. 

John Brissel was born in Hollidaysburg, Blair County, Pa., 46 years ago.  Feb. 27, 1864, he enlisted as a private soldier in Company G. 12th. Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry.  June 29, of the same year, he offered his services as a scout to take the place of a soldier detailed for that duty who had been disabled.  His mission was to discover the position and strength of Gen. Mosby's cavalry.  He was captured by Mosby's men near Charlestown, Jefferson County, W.Va., and taken to Andersonville prison, where he was held as a prisoner eight months.  April 12, 1865, he was honorably discharged from the service.

He came to this city 14 years ago and worked at his trade, blacksmithing.  A wife and children:  Catherine, Joseph, Edward, Charles and Mary, survive.
